Band Director and Ensembles

WatkinsCameron M. Watkins, a native of Raleigh, NC, holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of South Carolina and is in his first year as the Director of Bands at Hartsville High School. Previously, Mr. Watkins was the Director of Bands at Chesterfield High School from 2010 - 2014.

 While at The University of South Carolina, Mr. Watkins performed as a tuba player for the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. James K. Copenhaver, Concert Band under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Phillips and Dr. David O’Shields,“The Mighty Sound of the Southeast” Marching Band under the direction of Dr. George Brozak, the “USC Tuba Ensemble” Under the direction of Dr. Ronald Davis and the USC Tuba Quartet that was student led and other various ensembles. He also continues to be an active performer with the Palmetto Concert Band under the direction of Mr. James K. Copenhaver, Dr. William Moody and Dr. Scott Weiss. 

 Mr. Watkins is an aspiring adjudicator for various marching band and concert band events. He has also served as a member of instructional staff across North and South Carolina teaching leadership development, drum major techniques, marching band fundamentals, brass ensemble performance, and music theory.

 In addition to teaching, he has experience doing drill design and consulting for Marching Bands, Winter Guards and Indoor Percussion Ensembles in South Carolina including Hartsville High School, South Florence High School, Central High School, Chesterfield High School, and the 2014 Open Class Finalist Coastal Surge Drum and Bugle Corps.  

 Mr. Watkins, professional affiliations include the National Band Association (NBA), The National Association for Music Education (NAfME), South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA), Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and The International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA). 

 On a personal note, Mr. Watkins enjoys spending time with his wife, Megan Watkins, his three dogs (Alix, Jack, and Little Girl) as well as cooking, drinking coffee and writing drill.
