Principal
Dr. Charlie Burry, Jr. is a 1969 graduate of Hartsville High School. He received his B.A. degree in History in 1973 from Furman University, a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree from Francis Marion University in 1976, and in 1993 completed his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina. He has worked in public education for 36 years, having taught and coached for three years at the South Carolina School for Boys in Florence and for two years at Gilbert High School in Lexington County before returning to Hartsville in 1978. He is in his 31st year at Hartsville High School and his fifth year as principal. Prior to becoming principal, he was a guidance counselor for 17 years, and taught U.S. History and Sociology for nine years. He was also a varsity football assistant coach for 17 years, and coached basketball and tennis at other times during a 31-year coaching career. Dr. Burry is a member of First Baptist Church of Hartsville, where he is an ordained deacon and past chairman of the deacon board. Dr. Burry is married and has two adult daughters.
